Snow day!!!!

Well overnight and today Newfoundland was hit hard by a snow storm. Winds were clocked at 102km/hour at one point. The Gander Weather Office says about 20 cm of snow had fallen at St. John's International Airport before the freezing rain/ice pellets started. There was zero visibility. Pretty much the entire city shut down, including my work!! WOOHOO!!!! Public transit wasn't running, all flights at the airport were cancelled, the university was closed (although Chris doesn't have class on Wednesday anyway), and the only mall in the city shut down. And we're suppose to get another 5-10cm overnight.

I got a call at 7am from the office manager saying we were closed for the morning and the situation would be reassessed at 11am. The downside was I had to call the morning patients to let them know we were closed. So I fell back asleep until 8am and then started calling patients. Most said they figured we were closed. Others said they weren't even going to try to venture out if we had been open. One patient, however, asked if I could call her prescription in to her pharmacy for her. I had to explain that I was calling her from my home and that the doctors were all home too and wouldn't be able to do that. At 10:30am I got the second call - closed for the day! WOOHOO!!!!! So I got to lounge around, watch tv, and play Guitar Hero. I was somewhat productive though; I swept the house, did the dishes, and did a load of laundry.

We didn't have to shovel either since the guy upstairs/landlord has a snowblower. We'll just have to clean off the car tomorrow.

The city seems to shut down anytime there's a risk of snow, it's pretty ridiculous. This is the 1st time our office was closed though, I would guess due to the high winds and zero visibility. This makes up for us not having Family Day here in Newfoundland!

It's hard to see, but our car is there. And you can't even tell those are stairs.
The snow right outside our door.
Snow drift.
Ya, that's quite a bit of snow. The kids upstairs actually toboggan down the stairs.

The funniest thing I've seen in a while

Whenever I need a good laugh I open this up. I hope it brings you as much joy as it brings me. Thanks Sam for emailing it to me.
